Night Out honored

Suffolk’s National Night Out celebration was named in the Top 5 in the nation among communities in its population group for the 14th straight year.

Announced earlier this week, Suffolk’s fifth-place finish in the 50,000 to 100,000 group means yet another honor from the National Association of Town Watch, which sponsors National Night Out and honors participating communities based on its evaluation of a video and other materials from the event.

The city received the No. 1 ranking in 2008, 2009, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Suffolk was the highest-ranked locality of any size in Virginia.

Held on the first Tuesday in August each year, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, a city press release issued this week stated. This event enhances the relationships between neighbors and first responders while bringing back a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Next year’s National Night Out will take place on Aug. 4. For more information, visit www.suffolknno.com or www.facebook.com/SuffolkVaNNO.
