Christmas returns to Driver

The merchants in Suffolk’s Driver community will bring holiday cheer to their part of the city Saturday evening with the annual “Christmas in Driver.”
The festivities will begin with local Christmas entertainment at 4 p.m. this Small Business Saturday. According to Terri Moore with Driver Events, Daniel Clark will be performing from 4 to 5:15 p.m., followed by Jim and Sandy Allen from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Santa will arrive in Driver by fire truck at 6 p.m. to light the tree at the Knot Hole Station store in Driver, then proceed upstairs for children to visit with him. There will be a registration process for children to meet Santa.
“We will make sure every child gets to see Santa that is in Driver,” Moore wrote, “but we are expecting to be done around 8 p.m.”
All of the different activities are free for the community, like Christmas ornament painting, writing letters to Santa and refreshments. There will also be the Grinch lurking about, and many holiday specials at the different Driver shops.
Donations of unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots will be accepted, as well as non-perishable food items to help the less fortunate this holiday season.
“This is sure to be a great event for everyone, especially children,” according to the “Christmas in Driver” Facebook event page, with a special thanks for the Driver Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion, Boxx Systems and all of the Driver merchants. “This is Driver’s way of saying thank you for supporting small businesses all year long.
“Driver is a special little village, but we strive to provide you with special, big-time events, and this will not disappoint.”
