Suffolk is turning its back on downtown area

What in the world is going on with the city of Suffolk lately? All you hear about is everything moving to North Suffolk. What is wrong with the old city, Suffolk proper?
Now, I read that the City Council wants to move the Christmas parade to North Suffolk. And what about TGIF? Do they really think we downtown people are going to drive out to Bennett’s Creek? On Friday afternoons, at that!
Here we are trying to develop downtown Suffolk and the Historic District, and there they go trying to move things away from Suffolk proper. How are we going to keep things growing in downtown?
And while I am complaining, I think the city’s new policy on bulk waste disposal is ridiculous. They must have designed this plan for the truck owners in Suffolk, not taking into consideration that there is an abundance of us car owners who are not able to get bulk waste to the dump — unless we happen to know someone who owns a truck and would be generous enough to let us put our stinky old junk in the bed of their truck and then haul it away for us.
And, the charges for removing the waste are just as ridiculous as the policy!
I think City Council needs to reassess these situations. It’s a sad, sad day when we lose the good things in life that make us happy, for the sake of a newly developed area!
