The United States Navy band Country Current will perform a free concert this Saturday to honor veterans in advance of Veterans Day next week.
The concert will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Suffolk, 237 N. Main St. The country-bluegrass ensemble will perform in the family life center at the church.
According to The United States Navy Band Washington D.C. website, this group is nationally renowned for its versatility and “eye-popping” musicianship. Their performance is a blend of modern country music and cutting-edge bluegrass.
“Formed in 1973, the band has a rich legacy of notable alumni including Bill Emerson, Wayne Taylor, Jerry Gilmore and Frank Sollivan,” according to the website.
They have performed at the Grand Ole Opry, for several different U.S. presidents, as well as overseas in Stockholm, Nova Scotia and Beijing.
“With a fun-filled and family-friendly stage show, Country Current has been delighting its fans for over 40 years with their musical virtuosity and humor,” the website states.
Friends, neighbors and family are welcome to attend the free, public concert, according to Vicky Sapp, a committee member of the church’s military ministry.
