As we approach the final week of the regular season Friday night, the Warriors and Bulldogs both hold playoff spots.

The Suffolk Public Schools are preparing for their final week of the regular season, and those games could have some major playoff implications. The new Virginia High School League top 20 rankings were released again this week, and the playoff race is looking tighter. Nansemond River High School was the only school of the three to pick up a win last week, but all three schools will be looking to close the season out strong Friday night.

In the Class 5 Region A rankings, the Warriors remain at the No. 6 spot with a 7-2 record. If the playoffs started today, Nansemond River will likely be on the road for however long they advance.

They finish the season with a matchup against Deep Creek High School. The Hornets are ranked behind the Warriors at No. 7, so Friday’s matchup will likely be for the sixth seed in the region. Coach Justin Conyers has already mentioned that the Warriors have been in playoff mode the last couple of weeks, as they wanted to finish the season strong.

King’s Fork High School holds the No. 7 spot in the Class 4 Region A rankings. The top eight solidify themselves a playoff spot. The Bulldogs were shut out last week in a tough loss to Deep Creek High School. They will need to win their final game on Friday to assure that they can keep their seventh seed and head into the playoffs.

The Bulldogs haven’t quite had the season they expected; however, Coach Kermit Buggs and the Bulldogs know they have a chance to make a playoff run, and Friday night will be their final chance to do so when they take on Grassfield High School. If they do earn a playoff spot, it will be four straight seasons for the Bulldogs.

Winless Lakeland High School won’t be making the playoffs this year for the second straight season. However, they do have a chance to end the season on a high note and pick up a win against Indian River High School Friday night.
