CPR editorial fell short

To the editor:
Your article on lives depending on CPR is very accurate and supported by many statistics. I am personally CPR certified, but that is only because I work with children. If my job did not require me to be CPR certified, I know that I would not go out of my way to do it. As anything else in the world, it costs money. Not everyone can afford to be certified.
It is stated how others’ lives depend on it. However, once one starts chest compressions, they can’t stop. Now the liability of the unconscious person is on the CPR-certified person giving compressions. Yes, someone else’s life depends on it, but if one does not feel comfortable doing it, they do not have to, because they will be liable for that person as well.
As a reader of Suffolk News-Herald, I was excited when I saw this topic. However, instead of just hoping that citizens now want to be CPR-certified, the author should explain pricing, places and opportunities for the residents of Suffolk to take action. Giving information would be more beneficial.
