Two of the three Suffolk Public Schools dropped a bit in the Virginia High School League weekly rankings.

It was a tough weekend of football for all of the Suffolk Public Schools. Each played in tough games that featured a range of emotions; however, each school took a loss.

Nansemond River High School took a loss to Oscar Smith High School, while King’s Fork High School and Lakeland High School lost to Great Bridge High School and Hickory High School, respectively.

Nansemond River dropped back one spot in the Class 5 Region A rankings from five to six. Oscar Smith is a school with a higher classification, so it didn’t significantly drop the Warriors in the rankings. They currently have a rating of 26.14. If the playoffs started today, Nansemond River would hold the No. 6 seed and the final spot in the region playoffs.

King’s Fork dropped out of the top six of the Class 4 Region A rankings. They currently sit at No. 8. They are not too far from the sixth spot, but in order for the Bulldogs to make the playoffs, they will need to finish the season strong. Two rating points separate the Bulldogs from the final spot of the Class 4 Region A rankings.

Winless Lakeland remains ranked 12^th in the Class 3 Region A.

With three games left, Suffolk has a chance to have at least two of its three public schools in the playoffs. There is a chance at least one playoff game could be hosted in Suffolk as well.
