The Lakeland High School football team took its seventh loss of the season against Hickory High School Friday.

The Cavs still remain winless after the 31-7 loss. It was another tough one for the Cavs, who go to 0-7 on the season.

“They showed us some different things offensively than what we have played against in the past,” Coach Joe Jones said. “We had some opportunities out there to make plays, but we will continue to learn and continue to keep working.”

Lakeland had a couple of drives offensively in its own territory but couldn’t capitalize on them. It’s something Jones believes the Cavs can fix. For the past month or so, Lakeland has had to shift around offensive line combinations due to the injuries and other things, so they are still trying to get in rhythm there.

“We feel like if we are able to get protection consistently, we can start to make a little bit of noise,” Jones said. “But it’s something we will continue to work toward.”

Next for Lakeland is a matchup with Nansemond River High School. Lakeland fell to King’s Fork High School in their last rival game, and they have a chance to even that up against Nansemond River Friday.
