Friday apartment fire caused by lightning

The cause of a Friday evening fire at Sadler Ponds apartments complex was confirmed as a lightning strike, city spokeswoman Debbie George said Wednesday.
The call was received about 4 p.m. Friday. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the building’s attic was on fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic, but the apartment below suffered extensive fire and water damage. Two other apartments also suffered water damage. About 20 people were displaced initially because of power being cut to the remainder of the building. There were no injuries, however.
The cause of a separate fire on Saturday in the 100 block of Highfield Road is undetermined, George said. Three houses near that fire had damage to vinyl siding because of the heat, she added.
