The Warriors and the Bulldogs remain in the top 10 in their regions in the Virginia High School League weekly rankings.

The halfway point has come and gone for this year’s football season, and over the next couple of weeks, playoff positioning will be taking shape. Last week in the VHSL weekly rankings, both Nansemond River High School and King’s Fork High School were in the top 10 in their respective regions. This week, they remain there.

Nansemond River is 4-1 on the season after defeating rival King’s Fork last weekend. The Warriors sit tied at the No. 5 spot in the Class 5 Region A as they did last week. They are one of three Southeastern District teams in the top 10. Both Nansemond River and Cox High School have a 25.00 rating.

King’s Fork took a loss to Nansemond River last weekend to put them at 2-3 on the season. They are currently in the No. 6 spot in the Class 4 Region A. After the game, Coach Kermit Buggs talked about wanting to get his offense going a bit more so that the Bulldogs can make a strong playoff push in the second half of the season.

Lakeland High School is ranked No. 12 in the Class 3 Region A rankings despite being winless. The Cavs will look to try to get their first win this weekend against Great Bridge High School.

If the playoffs started today, both the Warriors and Bulldogs would be in. Nansemond River will take on Grassfield High School Friday night, and the Bulldogs will take on Oscar Smith High School.
