City Council will have the chance to formally accept U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding of more than $800,000 in grant money during its Wednesday meeting.

HUD has awarded the city $807,649, which includes $459,389 in Community Development Block Grant Program money, to support the program’s administration and activities to serve low-to-moderate income people and families in the city. Of this money, $208,000 would go toward neighborhood and community improvement, while another $100,000 would go toward the emergency home repair program.

It also includes another $348,260 in Home Investment Partnership Program money, which will go toward program administration and activities for low-to-moderate income people and families of the Western Tidewater HOME Consortium. Suffolk is the lead agency of the consortium, which also includes Franklin along with Isle of Wight and Southampton counties.
