Lakeland High School sophomore Jordan Clark was voted Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week after her strong performance in a win against King’s Fork High School.
The Lakeland girls’ volleyball team recently went toe-to-toe with a rival in King’s Fork. The Lady Cavs were able to get the win behind a strong team performance. Clark showcased her improving skills, leading the way for the Lady Cavs. Clark personally felt good about her performance.
“I felt good about how I played,” Clark said. “I had some really nice blocks, a couple of great hits and a lot of amazing serves. Overall, I felt good about how I played. It was a really big win for us, seeing as we almost beat them in five sets last season.”
Clark is in her fourth year of playing volleyball and has made a lot of strides since she started. She works hard during the offseason and plays with the Edge travel volleyball team. Even though some things are still a little new to her, between her seventh-grade year until now, she has made a big jump in her skill level. For this season, she has goals of once again taking her skills to the next level.
“I want to be more consistent with my jump serve this year,” Clark said. “I also want to be more consistent with different hitting techniques and just improve on my overall defense. I’ve felt like I’ve made a big jump from my freshman season to sophomore season. Working with the Edge volleyball team really helped me in the offseason.”
Her family and coaches inspire her. On the court and off the court, her coaches and family are always encouraging her to be her best and just continue to work as hard as she can and challenge her to be better than the last time she stepped on the court.
“My team and my family motivate me,” she said. “I just want to play the best I can for them.”
Lakeland volleyball has been strong through this first portion of the season. It is a testament to the growth and the experience the players have been able to gain throughout previous seasons with very few wins. Clark is excited about Lakeland volleyball, even though she believes the Lady Cavs still haven’t quite reached their potential as a group yet.
“We have a great group of girls working together as a team with an ultimate goal to finish the season strong,” Clark said. “We have come along way, and I see great things in our future.”
