An upcoming 5K in downtown Suffolk has a price increase on Oct. 2, so those hoping to run the Home of the Brave 5K and Kids Quarter-Mile Dash on Nov. 9 should hurry and register.

The race will begin and end near the courthouse, 150 N. Main St. The quarter-miler will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9 a.m. The 5K course will make its way past City Hall and over to Prentis Street, past the historic Seaboard Station Railroad Museum and then back by Pinner Street. Runners will enjoy the challenge of two bridges crossing over railroad tracks.

The 5K will have an allowed time of up to 90 minutes to allow walkers to finish. Age group and top-finisher awards will be given for the 5K, which will be timed by A&R Timing, according to the press release.

The entire course is stroller-friendly. All registered participants will receive an event T-shirt.

“The purpose of the Home of the Brave 5K is for runners to enjoy a 5K run in beautiful downtown Suffolk and perhaps get a personal best time,” Parks and Recreation Director Mark Furlo wrote in an email. “We are asking runners to wear red, white and blue to show support for veterans.”

The registration fee for the 5K is $39, while the Quarter-Mile Dash — which is open to ages 2 to 10 — will cost $24. The price for 5K registration will increase on Oct. 2 to $42, and then to $45 after Nov. 5, while the quarter-mile dash price will go up to $27 and then $30 on the same dates.

The race packet pick-up location will be determined 30 days prior to the race, according to Furlo.
