Lakeland High School Coach Jamee Albright is heading into year two as the coach for the Lady Cavs field hockey team.

Albright, a former Lakeland field hockey star, made her mark in her first year as a coach with the program last year. A strong Lady Cavs team finished in the quarterfinals of the Class 3 state tournament last season. Lakeland has a few players from that team returning, and they are looking forward to the season.

“I have a lot of young girls on the team this season, and so far, they have looked good,” Albright said. “We have a lot of good skill. Even though we have some new girls on the team, they have adjusted well to my coaching style and the way that we do things.”

Key returners for the Lady Cavs this season are Aryn Kinsey, Alexa Snyder, Amora Marchand and Michela Brown-Mayfield. Albright is expecting them to continue to bring experience to the team along with their hard-working attitude. They were a part of the run the Lady Cavs made last season, so they have experience in tough games.

Albright expects the strength of the team to be on the offensive end, and she believes that the team will score a lot of goals this season.

“Offensively we want to be strong, and defensively we want to be that way as well,” she said. “I think we are going to work hard every time we step on the field. And with the experience some of our returners got last season, it’ll be beneficial.”

Albright believes the best way to coach younger players is to show confidence in them and keep an open line of communication. Albright is not far removed from being a student-athlete herself, at both the high school and college levels, so she can relate to the adjustments some of her players will go through.

“I’m not one of those types of coaches who yell,” Albright joked. “I make sure I give the right advice to the players helping them on the field and off the field. I want to make sure I’m encouraging them. Since I’ve gone through it, I’m able to speak from experience a lot of the times, and I think the girls relate to that as well.”

Lakeland will get their season started Monday when they take on York High School on the road.
