There are still a few days left for any aspiring or experienced photographer to submit a potentially winning entry into the Suffolk Art League’s photo contest.

This photo contest will feature 12 winning submissions in a 2020 calendar that showcases Suffolk’s beauty and personality.

Photo entries must be submitted digitally to suffolkartleague@verizon.net no later than Saturday, and each photograph chosen for inclusion will win a $50 prize.

Linda Bunch, executive director for the Suffolk Art League, said that they’ve received about 60 different images that are “wonderfully reflective of Suffolk,” from rivers, lakes and fields to sunrises and sunsets.

There are also several drone photos, as well as some beautiful submissions from the Nansemond Indian Nation powwow in Chuckatuck last weekend.

“One thing I might suggest is seasonal photographs,” Bunch said. “We do not have a lot of seasonal photographs, and with a calendar you’d like to have seasonal photos for that month.”

This calendar contest is sponsored by Suffolk Tourism and Keep Suffolk Beautiful and is open to photographers of all skill levels.

All photographs must have been taken in Suffolk, Va., within the past three years, and photographers may submit up to three photographs in landscape orientation for consideration. A panel of judges representing the Suffolk Art League, Suffolk Art Gallery and Suffolk Tourism will select the final images for the 2020 calendar.

Each photo must be in digital format between 8 and 20 megapixels (minimum 2550 x 3300 pixels), high resolution (300 dpi) and in JPEG, JPG or GIF format. The photos may be in color or black and white.

Photographs of Suffolk parks, events, trails, architecture, athletic facilities, public spaces and waterways are encouraged, and the images may represent different seasons.

Photos that feature people in them will require signed release forms, which are available on the Suffolk Art League website. Visit suffolkartleague.com for contest rules and details.
