The sixth annual Old School Classic will be at held at King’s Fork High School this Saturday.
For the sixth year in a row, alumni of Suffolk schools from the past will all gather to compete in the Old School Classic. The event is a fundraiser for the Lakeland High School boys’ basketball team, and it has always turned out well every year for the community.
“It’s fun when we all get together to be able to play the game we love,” Lakeland coach Clint Wright said. “People love seeing alumni and having that old school feeling, so we are just grateful for six years into this and we are looking forward to another fun time this year again.”
The old Suffolk high schools to be featured are Suffolk, John Yeates, John F. Kennedy and Forest Glen. This year will also feature Franklin and Northampton. After putting together the first female exhibition game of the OSC two years ago, Wright is excited for the matchup to happen again this year.
“We added a new team this year, so it’ll be good for everyone to see some new faces,” Wright said. “We are glad this is still able to go strong, and we are able to see each other’s faces again and be able to catch up with one another.”
Due to issues with the air conditioning at Lakeland, the game will be held at King’s Fork this year. A $5 donation is requested for the game.
“People love that reunion feel, and this is a great opportunity to have that,” Wright said. “To get a chance to watch or laugh at some quality basketball and just be able to intermingle with each other and have fun later on that evening with each other. It’s always great for those who come to watch, and everyone involved.”
