Get ready to chill out

There are lots of ways to stay cool this summer, but one of our favorites is a frozen treat.
A Slurpee from 7-Eleven is a classic choice, and thanks to the participation of the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office in a 7-Eleven program, lots of youngsters will be able to get a free one this year.
“Operation Chill” is now under way, and deputies will be watching for children and teens doing good things as they’re out and about on their daily duties.
If they spot children doing good deeds, like cutting grass, picking up trash, being kind or helping someone, the deputies can stop and give out an Operation Chill coupon for a free Slurpee.
The way the weather has been lately, we bet lots of young people will be glad to receive such an offer. Sometimes, a Slurpee is just the right thing for a hot, humid summer day, especially when you’ve been out doing good things.
In addition to helping foster a better relationship between young people and law enforcement, this program might provide a little extra motivation for children to get outside this summer. The excitement of getting caught doing a good thing — and getting a free Slurpee — might just be enough to keep them motivated in the heat.
The Suffolk Sheriff’s Office has been participating in this program for several years now, and we hope they catch lots of Suffolk youngsters doing good things this summer.
