One dead, one injured in crash, shooting

A man initially thought to have died of a crash on College Drive Friday evening turned out to have a gunshot wound, according to Suffolk Police.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 6000 block of College Drive, according to a city press release. The crash happened at 6:04 p.m.

Sidney Watson, 19, of Chesapeake, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found to have suffered a gunshot wound, according to the press release.

The passenger in that vehicle, also an adult male, was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening.

No suspect has been identified at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing, the press release stated.

College Drive southbound near Magnolia Drive and University Boulevard are expected to remain completely closed for an extended period of time. Detours are in place.
