An opportunity is coming next month to get people moving and help out a local group. The Peanut City Cloggers are hosting a barn dance for their community to join in on the dancing fun.

The Cloggers are holding this event to raise money for their group. The money will go towards their competitions, uniforms and other expenses.

“People will be able to see current, basic and familiar clogging steps and performances as well as be able to try their hand at clogging along with us,” said the Peanut City Cloggers’ publications chair, Shelia Morris.

There will be many ways to donate to the Peanut City Cloggers throughout the night. Along with donations at the door, there will be concessions, such as barbecue plates and hot dogs, for sale. Raffles will also take place for different baskets. Each basket has a theme such as movie night, beach day, summer fun and fishing. Some of the baskets will include brands like Younique.

Other than raising money, the Peanut City Cloggers want to share their love for clogging with their community. Numerous clogging teams, including the Peanut City Cloggers, will be performing an exhibition.

David Barned will be the caller and announcer for the night. There will be clogging, line dances and circle dances. With dancers of various levels on the floor, no previous dancing experience is needed to enjoy the night. All ages are welcome, and it is a night for wholesome family entertainment.

“Whether you dance or not, people always have a lot of fun at the barn dances. It’s a time when the dancers can dance and have fun without pressure from competing for a placement like they do at competitions. It also gives an opportunity for other clogging groups to come and have fun with us and not be in competition. Some people who clogged years ago usually show up to dance a little as well,” said Morris.

The Peanut City Cloggers have competed in two competitions this year and represented their hometown well. They are excited to share a night of dancing and family fun.

The barn dance will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. July 27 at Khedive Shrine Center, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake.
