The Suffolk Racquet Club will sponsor free tennis lessons starting on June 4. Eight lessons will be held free of charge from June 4 to 27 at the Suffolk Racquet Club tennis courts, 327 W. Constance Road.
Lessons will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with beginner lessons at 5:30 p.m. and intermediate lessons and drills for high schoolers and adults at 6:30 p.m. They will be taught by experienced players with assistance from local teaching pros.
More lessons and opportunities could come later this summer depending on the community’s response, according to avid tennis player and Suffolk native Harry Cross, who called tennis a “lifetime sport.”
“It’s good for exercise, for fellowship and it’s just good for your health. It’s a good game,” Cross said.
Registration must be completed before lessons begin on June 4. While the lessons are free, donations to the Suffolk YMCA KIDS Camp, ForKids or the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association are encouraged.
Players can sign up by emailing their names to suffolkracketclub@gmail.com. Call Harry Cross at 434-9084 for additional information.
