Nansemond River High School theater students will present a modern rendition of William Shakespeare’s classic “Romeo and Juliet” this week for their annual spring show. The performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the school, 3301 Nansemond Parkway.

Junior Noah Fisher and sophomore Jackie Rangel will play the lead roles. Directed by Suffolk Public Schools’ Fine Arts Facilitator Dr. Joleen Neighbours, Noah, Jackie and the rest of the cast and crew will bring Shakespeare’s tragedy crashing into modern life “through a chorus of social media,” according to the press release.

The star-crossed lovers and their families will navigate the year 2019 using Shakespeare’s original words from 1597.
