The Suffolk Center Children’s Chorus will sing the classics for “A Night on Broadway A-Z.”
This spring performance will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Birdsong Theatre at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, 110 W. Finney Ave. The show is free and open to the public, with light refreshments served afterwards.
Students ages 7 to 17 will sing a variety of different songs from popular Broadway musicals such as Mary Poppins,” “Lion King,” “Sound of Music” and more.
“Audience members will hear familiar songs like, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,’ or ‘Oh, What a Beautiful Morning;’ that will bring back fond memories,” Children’s Chorus Instructor Gavin Harper wrote in an email. “People will be smiling ear-to-ear listening and singing along to the songs that we will be presenting. You won’t want to miss out on this magical evening.”
This is the third season of the Children’s Chorus, with 19 enrolled students, according to Harper. The program started in January 2018 and each season runs from January to May and September to December.
Registration for the Children’s Chorus is open to all students ages 7 to 17 who have even the slightest interest in singing. Harper noted how the students have improved dramatically over the course of this past season.
“The students have gained more confidence in their ability to sing in front of their peers and an audience,” he wrote. “They have learned different vocal techniques (and) how to shape their vowels. They have also learned music vocabulary that they can use in their future musical training.”
