Suffolk City Manager Patrick Roberts will reveal the proposed fiscal year 2019-2020 budget at the Wednesday City Council meeting.
City Council will also consider holding public hearings on the budget at its May 1 meeting.
The current, fiscal year 2018-2019 budget — addressing operational and capital needs — is nearly $627.5 million, which is a 4-percent increase over the previous fiscal year, with the adopted general fund budget of $213.2 million a 5-percent increase over the previous fiscal year.
The council will also receive a briefing from the Department of Planning and Community Development, and Census Regional Partnership Specialist Kevin Krigsvold on the 2020 census during its work session.
During its regular session, it will also get a report about the proposed fiscal year 2019-2020 annual action plan for Suffolk’s Community Development Block Grant Program and the Western Tidewater Home Consortium Home Investment Partnership Grant Program.
During the meeting, the council will take up an ordinance to accept $58,882.80 from the Virginia Municipal League Insurance Programs for property damage to a Department of Public Utilities pump station.
The council’s work session will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and its regular meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at 442 W. Washington St.
