Betty Lee Hall White

Betty Lee Hall White of the 1900 block of Carolina Road, Suffolk, transitioned on Thursday, March 28, 2019, in Petersburg. She was born in Sunbury, N.C., on June 1, 1933, to the late George Washington Hall and Ada Freeman Hall. She was predeceased by a son, Ronnie D. White (1999); brothers, George Earl Hall (2006) and Joseph P. Hall (2014); sisters, Addie H. Sweatt (2012), Lorraine H. Hardy (2013) and Lillie H. Long (2019).
Betty attended the Nansemond County Public Schools and, because of her high scholastic achievements, she graduated early from East Suffolk High School in 1949. At an early age she confessed Christ, was baptized and joined the Mt. Ararat United Church of Christ, where she served as a member of the Diaconate Ministry, Senior Choir, Ushers, Pastor’s Aide and Women’s Fellowship.
On Feb. 25, 1950, she married her childhood sweetheart and remained the faithful wife of Vernon T. White for 69 years, and to this union were born five children. Betty saw the individual gifting in each of her children and sought to help shape them for the future. She was a pioneer (1966) at the General Electric Company and remained an employee until its closing in 1986. Following her early retirement, she enjoyed a life of leisure and attending the activities of her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by a loving husband, Vernon T. White Sr.; children, Vernon T. White Jr. (Vivian), Vincent L. White, Jannine W. Eley (Earl) and Dr. Kevin R. White (Dolores); grandchildren, Michael White, Ronnie Lamont White, LiKevin R.F. White, Antoine White (Andrea), Shauvaun McDuffy (Vincent), Tameka Long (Madison), Danielle Reid (Jeremy), Brandon C.K. White (Lyne), Tony B. White and Bryan K. Eley; 15 great-grandchidlren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Susie M. Hall, Margaret White, Virginia W. Johnson, Patricia W. Clevenger and Brenda W. Claude (Douglas); a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Mt. Ararat Christian Church, 1860 Airport Road, Suffolk. The Rev. Dr. H. Harvey Murrill will deliver the message of comfort. She will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
