To the editor:

As a middle income family ($60,000 to $110,000), I’d first like to thank our Congress as well as President Donald Trump for reducing our federal taxes for 2018 by more than $1,300. Along with tens of millions of others in this bracket, we are most thankful for these “crumbs.”

Secondly, I would like to extend a special thank you to the top 1 percent and top 10 percent of earners, who pay 38 percent and 70 percent of all federal tax dollars collectively. They foot the lion’s share of the costs of covering the many benefits we (as citizens) receive.

Instead of demonizing them, we should appreciate the contributions they make for our benefit. While some may have been given a silver spoon, most of these individuals have put in long hours, sacrificed family and risked everything to succeed.

It’s time the public realizes their financial and charitable contributions. Do not kill the Golden Goose!
