After years of playing a schedule that features JV and varsity teams, the Knights are excited about their first full season as a varsity team.

The Suffolk Christian Academy baseball team is in the midst of its first full-time varsity season. In previous seasons, SCA had teams compiled of JJV, JV and varsity players, not officially being a varsity level team. Its schedule featured hybrid games against both some varsity teams and JV teams.

Now, with a schedule full of varsity opponents, the Knights are excited about what the future holds.

“We’ve spent the past couple of seasons developing a practice organization,” Coach Ed Feeney said. “Keeping our players sharp all year around. We have a core group of players that play hard and work well together. We are excited about the opportunity to have a full-time varsity season.”

Through three games this season, SCA sits at 2-1. They have a strong core starting with junior Alex Feeney. Jeffrey Peacock returns as a standout. The Knights have five pitchers, including Noah Weaver and Brennan Jones.

“We have a bunch of different talented players on this team and some players who have been in the program for a long time,” Feeney said. “That’s good when it comes to leadership. We worked on this group and developed them. All the guys are excited to be a part of this level of a season.”

SCA has made it known this season isn’t strictly about win-loss success; it’s about being able to sustain a foundation that will carry them for seasons to come. With only two seniors this season, Feeney believes the team is in great shape for the coming years.

“Our goal is to continue to build the team and develop,” Feeney said. “We want to sustain a program that is going to field a varsity team for years to come.”

The Knights recently picked up a 28-0 win Tuesday afternoon against Denbigh Baptist Christian School. They will look to get a win against Summit Christian Academy next.
