Judith Levon Machamer Chapman was called home to be with the Lord on Feb. 18, 2019, at her home in Suffolk.
The daughter of missionaries, the Rev. George and Dorothy Machamer, Judith was born in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 26, 1947. Judy and her three siblings, Dottie Ricker and Jon and Steve Machamer, had a unique childhood growing up in Africa where they saw firsthand how God was working in the world around them. At the age of 12, Judith dedicated her life to God. While attending Washington Bible College near Lanham, Md., Judy met and later married Donald A. Chapman Jr. Judy followed Don into his ministry for the Lord first in Saint Augustine, Fla., at Berachah Bible Church and more recently at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church in Wakefield and Ivor United Methodist Church in Ivor.
During their 32-year marriage, Don and Judy were blessed with five children: Katherine (Robert) Cain, Alan Chapman, Wayne (Carrie) Chapman, Rachel (James) LeBlanc and Janet (Keith) Arthur. After Don’s passing in 2002, Judy focused on being “Winky” to her grandchildren: Zachary and Jenna Cain and Drew LeBlanc. She enjoyed cross-stitching, all types of puzzles and watching the birds in her backyard. Judy fought her short battle with courage, determination and a sense of humor. Although she will be greatly missed by her siblings, her children and her grandchildren as well as her brother-in-law, Mark (Susan) Chapman, the faith Judy lived and believed reminds us that we shall meet again one day.
A gathering of remembrance will be held by the Chapman family at Liberty Spring Christian Church in Suffolk at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. Friends and family are welcome to join.
