After the Class 3 swim meet over the weekend, Coach Cassandra Eagan feels good about her first year with the Cavs.
The Lakeland High School swim team competed in the Class 3 swim meet over the weekend and was able to do some good things. Corey Hasson made it to the consolation round in both the 100 free and 100 backstroke, placing 11th and 15th, respectively. Colton Brown went to the consolation round placing 15th and 16th in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. The boys’ 400 freestyle relay placed 15th as well.
First-year coach Cassandra Eagan enjoyed her first year coaching the Lakeland High School swim team. Of course, there were challenges along the way that she had to face, but she feels she and the team managed pretty well.
“I was very pleased with the dedication and effort put forth by my swimmers this season,” Eagan said. “We are a small team, so it is difficult to win meets, but to see every single member of the team achieve personal bests this season, some of them breaking records and going to states, and to watch a team turn into a family, is a big win in my book.”
This season, Hasson set school records in five events. The senior class as a whole competed well for Lakeland. Swimming in a talented Southeastern District is tough, but the Cavs believe it makes them better in the long run.
“We may have a ways to go, but the first step is hard work and ambition,” she said. “This team has definitely demonstrated that this season. Of course, I will be sad to lose my seniors, but there is already so much potential waiting for the rest of the team next season, and I’m looking forward to working with that.”
