James Graves Sr.

James “J.B.” Graves Sr., 80, of Moore Farm Lane, Suffolk, transitioned Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at his residence. He was the son of the late James A. Graves and Sallie B. Harris Graves.

He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. In 2000, he retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 36 dedicated years as a pipefitter.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Lorraine Brown Graves, of Suffolk; two daughters, Cynthia Graves and Javonda Wright (Clint Sr.), both of Suffolk; three sons, Quentin Graves (Felicia), of Cincinnati, 1st Sgt. James Graves Jr., of El Paso Texas, and Terence Titus Graves (Jackie), of Richmond; four sisters, Mary Chapman, Carrollton, Beulah M. McCain, of Richmond, Paulette Cypress (Frissell), of Elbron, and Tessie Batten (Lannie), of Carrollton; two brothers, Morris Graves (Sherry), and Bishop Oried Graves (Edna), both of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren, Torsha Graves, Shelton Graves, Derek Wright, Shanice Graves, Terence M. Graves, Nicholas Graves, Skylar Graves, Clint Wright Jr., Akir Smith and Destinee Wright; great-granddaughter, Amiyah Beale, Alexa Graves and Bo-Rayel.

A viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 18, 2019 at Little Mt. Zion Church, 3288 Pruden Blvd. He will be laid to rest in Christian Home Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
