Watching the royal family

To the editor:
The world watched with great anticipation as a young American, Meghan Markle, became the bride of Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex. She is now a member of the British royal family.
She is of mixed heritage, she was a member of the working class and she was divorced. These may not be the usual characteristics for the members of the British royal family; yet, she is royal.
As royal as Princess Meghan is, however, we who have faith in Jesus Christ are royal as well, regardless of our varied pasts. We are a “royal priesthood,” demonstrating God’s praises. (1 Peter 2:9, NIV)
Even those among us who are not followers of Jesus are special; because we are all made in the “image” and “likeness” of God, (Genesis 1:26, NIV) the Creator of the universe; and, Jesus gave His life so that we all could become a part of His royal family. (John 3:16, NIV)
As great as it may sound to be a part of the British royal family, our status in God’s royal family is even greater. The British royal family’s status pertains only to this world. Our status in God’s royal family pertains to this world and the next.
