Road work that will close Pruden Boulevard for about three months should result in better drainage in the area during extreme weather, according to the city of Suffolk.

The city on Thursday announced the road work is expected to begin Feb. 11. The city will install large box culvert drainage structures under the existing roadway in the 2500 block of Pruden Boulevard. The culverts will connect Lake Meade and Sadler Pond.

The work will require a full road closure for three months, followed by an anticipated period of six weeks during which one lane in each direction will be open, the city stated in a press release.

A detour route will be established via the bypass.

“Every effort is being made to minimize the impacts to traffic; however, some delay time and use of the detour route should be expected,” the press release stated.
