The Lakeland High School girls’ basketball team completed its first series sweep of the season Tuesday night.
The Lady Cavs defeated Hickory High School for the second time this season. At Lakeland, the Lady Cavs took a 54-39 win.
It was the second win of the season for the Lady Cavs in a great effort. Coach Daryl Rountree believes it was the most complete game he has seen his team play this season.
“I felt like we finally put together a complete game,” he said. “We defended well, and we shot well from the floor. It’s a confidence booster for all of us. They showed how they can play when they play together and play a complete game. We want to keep going forward with this momentum.”
Keymone Canady led the way with 20 points to go along with six steals and four rebounds. Zaria Green-Pope scored three points but grabbed 10 rebounds. The Lady Cavs hope this win can help them turn the corner. Despite being 2-10, the Lady Cavs have lost some very close games, and they want to start turning those close losses into wins.
“We want to just continue to build confidence, he said. “These girls are playing well, and we want to keep doing that.”
Lakeland will go on to play Deep Creek High School on the road at 7 p.m. Friday.
