Suffolk’s Planning Commission unanimously approved a preliminary subdivision plat for both single-family and multi-family residential developments on Bridge Road and Shoulders Hill Road during its Tuesday meeting.
A preliminary subdivision plat is the first step toward approving the development, and there is no public hearing required at this part of the process.
The subdivision plat request featured three adjacent parcels — 3347 Bridge Road, 5635 and 5551 Shoulders Hill Road. The three parcels total of 150 acres.
Currently, only a single-family home exists on the site, and the rest is just open fields and marshland.
The applicants and property owners, John Napolitano, Bennetts Creek Quarter LLC and Robert Chappelle, are proposing 50 single-family lots on the parcels with an eventual expansion for multi-family homes.
City Council previously rezoned the property from residential rural to residential urban on March 21, 2018, and the parcels are located in the Northern Growth Area.
The new development will add more homes to North Suffolk, and the development is just down the road from Creekside Elementary School. Students that live in the development would attend John Yeates Middle and Nansemond River high schools. According to the school zone locator on Suffolk Public Schools’ website, the parcels are currently split between Creekside and Northern Shores elementary schools.
It is unknown when the application will be presented to the Planning Commission for a public hearing.
