Bring your best — and trashy — ideas

Teenagers with creative ideas for fashionable trash can join Suffolk Public Library staff at the OnePast7 art studio on Friday for the library’s “Teen Trashion Show.”
The show will begin at 3 p.m. at the studio, located downtown at 100 N. Main St. Teams will have an hour and a half to turn trash and recyclables into innovative fashionwear. No advance registration is required and all materials are provided, plus light refreshments.
“We have been saving stuff at the library for a few months and have also gotten some fun donations,” Adult Program Services Coordinator Ashley Reed wrote in an email. That includes old floppy discs, plastic bottle caps and random broken things found in the libraries. “All kinds of stuff.”
Each participating team will then decide who will strut in their creation in a runway competition. The judges will be looking for things like creativity and use of recycled materials, Reed wrote. The winning team will receive a gift basket of goodies, such as candy, ear buds and art supplies.
“It is an opportunity to work creatively with friends on a fun project in a cool space, and as always it’s free,” Reed wrote in an email.
The “Teen Trashion Show” will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday at OnePast7. Visit suffolkpubliclibrary.com for more information.
