Christmas fellowship on Sunday

Suffolk Clergy United is inviting the public to join an early evening of caroling and fellowship on Sunday outside of Suffolk Presbyterian Church, 410 N. Broad St.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a half-hour of caroling, followed by a half-hour of fellowship with cookies and hot cocoa. Participants are encouraged to bring their own candles to pass between one another as the caroling ends.

According to the Rev. Julie Sterling with Suffolk Presbyterian Church, this Sunday is meant to be a relaxing hour with Christmas hymns, fellowship and hot chocolate.

“We’re going to come together, sing and have a little bit of fellowship,” Sterling said. “It’s meant to be a time for families to take a moment out of the businesses of the season and enjoy one another’s company.”

It’s also a rare opportunity for a mix of about two dozen local clergy to celebrate Christmas at the same time and place, according to the Rev. Matt Winters, pastor at Bethlehem Christian Church. He said that they typically come together for Easter, but this is the first time they’ve arranged something for the Christmas season.

“My hope is that it allows us to continue to bridge gaps that are between us, that we continue to come together in solidarity and unity and continue to get to know each other,” he said.

This is a rain-or-shine event that will be moved inside the church if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Contact Sterling at 539-3213 or suffolkpcusa@verizon.net for more information.
