Volunteers needed for book project

Suffolk Public Library will host an Engage Suffolk volunteer opportunity on Friday in partnership with the Suffolk Early Childhood Development Commission.
Children, high-schoolers looking for volunteer hours and their families can help put stickers on a sizable collection of books between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Morgan Memorial Library, 443 W. Washington St. No registration is required, and refreshments will be provided.
UPS Store No. 5885 at 1024 Centerbrooke Lane donated more than $6,000 worth of books to ECDC, which provides resources, services and programs for caregivers and children from birth through age 8.
“ECDC doesn’t have the manpower to put stickers on all the books, so they’re partnering with the library to get stickers on the books and give some teenagers volunteer hours,” said Suffolk Public Library’s youth and family services manager Jennifer Brown.
These books will be distributed to Suffolk’s youngest population after the stickers are placed. According to Brown, the stickers will show that the books were donated by the UPS Store.
“We’re just doing our part to help the ECDC get these books in the right hands,” she said.
