Cooking for community needs

Members of Suffolk Masonic Lodge 30 and the Suffolk Ruritan Club are partnering once again to raise money for locals in need by offering delicious meat, just in time for holiday feasting.
The menu for pre-orders includes ribs for $20 each, pork butts for $25 and turkeys for $30. Each order includes a homemade sauce, and orders are being accepted up to 5 p.m. this Wednesday.
“Every dollar we make goes back into the community,” Ruritan member E.C. Harris said.
The organizations held their initial fundraiser last year and raised roughly $2,500, Harris said. That money went to help four families that lost their homes in fires along with the family of Ian Dennis, a teenager who was diagnosed with stage five kidney disease last year.
Harris said they’re going to make this an annual tradition to raise money for what’s happening in the community at that given time.
“With people trying to buy Christmas gifts and pay their bills, sometimes the unexpected comes up and really puts a burden on folks,” Harris said. “We’re glad we’re able to come in and help in a time of need.”
Orders will be picked up on Saturday at the Suffolk Masonic Lodge, 247 N. Main St. Call Harris at 620-8625 or Jimmy Franks at 434-9240 to place your orders.
