Think before tweeting

Earlier this week, the Academy Awards announced that Kevin Hart would host the 91st Academy Awards, and within 48 hours, that honor was taken away.
Who is to blame for this? The internet and “social justice warriors.”
Kevin Hart came under fire following the announcement of him hosting the Oscars because of tweets from 2011 and homophobic comments from past stand-up routines.
This is the blessing and the curse of the internet and, more importantly, Twitter.
Do I like what the tweets said or the stand-up jokes? Absolutely not. The statements were homophobic and hurtful to an entire group of people.
Do I think that he should come under fire for what he said? No.
Do I think the Oscars should have fired him? No.
Now I know that seems backwards, because I am typically pretty liberal for most things, but I will never get behind condemning someone for something they said a decade ago when they have changed since then.
I can remember a time when I said some unsavory things. I was uneducated and came from a home where it didn’t matter. Then I grew up and got educated about the world and the people in it.
Social media is a fabulous tool, and it really does do great things sometimes, but there are people in this world that thrive on tearing down people’s careers for past transgressions, despite the fact those people have grown from them.
These social justice warriors are the reason that people think feminists and other progressives are overly sensitive and just scream all the time. These are the same people that don’t read past the headline, do research or shut up and listen.
The internet has done a disservice, and the Academy has completely bungled its 91st awards show.
Kevin Hart is an exceptional comedian. He has grown in the last decade like most of us have. They will have a particularly difficult time trying to find someone to fill his shoes. They more than likely won’t.
