Suffolk Christian Church will open its doors to give away clothes for free on Dec. 8 and 10 to help people stay warm this winter.
Dozens of racks will be set up in the church social hall with men’s and women’s clothing for all ages and in all sorts of styles and sizes. Citizens can simply come by and get what they need with no identification required, according to organizer Deb Munn.
“It’s kind of like going to a department store, except you don’t need your wallet,” she said.
The church organized its first clothing drive, which is separate from its coats giveaway, last winter, she said. The church distributed more than 1,100 articles of clothing last year and have much more to give this holiday season thanks to generous donors.
“I didn’t know how much I was going to be getting when we started this. It just keeps coming and coming,” Munn said about the donations. “It’s amazing the clothes that people hang onto, and it’s nice that someone else gets to use it.”
The giveaway will be at Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main St. Those in need can come by on Dec. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and on Dec. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. Clothing donations are still being accepted at the church as well.
