The Suffolk Art League’s annual Juried Exhibition is nearing its end, as it will be on display through Dec. 7 at the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave.
This year, 90 artists entered 241 works for jurying. Of those, 51 artworks were selected for the exhibition by Dr. Cole Welter, graduate program director and professor of art painting and drawing at James Madison University.
“There were many excellent entries submitted by a wide range of very talented artists that made the jurying process competitive and challenging,” said Welter. “In making my selections I looked for technical, expressive and conceptual qualities that set the work apart from the entries I did not choose for exhibition.” He also congratulated all of the artists who submitted work for consideration. “If your work was not selected for exhibition, or to receive an award, I urge you to remain dedicated to your artistic practice and optimistic about its development,” he stated.
Welter selected 15 award winners. “Awards were selected using the same criteria, with a heightened emphasis on the conceptual and emotive quality of the form of expression present by the work,” said Welter.
