The Suffolk Christian Academy girls’ basketball team hopes for a strong season this year.
With the season under way and Coach Kristy Patton at the helm, the Lady Knights are hoping for a productive season. Last year, SCA’s girls’ basketball team only had a JV team, but they are back with a varsity team this year. The Lady Knights return a team with no seniors but with a high level of team chemistry, as the players have been playing with each other for a few years now.
“I’m excited about the group of girls this season,” Patton said. “We have girls returning who have played together for a couple of years now. However, we still do have a young team. I am excited with what we’ll be able to put out on the court.”
Patton feels a different player can lead the team on any given night. It shows SCA won’t be dependent on just one player every night. Laura Cornette returns as one of the leaders for the Lady Knights. Jaden Patton and Heather Pearson are two players that will provide hustle and energy from the wing and from the inside.
“I am really excited about the chemistry. We have different girls who can step up and help us be successful this year,” Patton said.
The Lady Knights have had a couple of scrimmages so far this season. They showed well in those scrimmages. Patton believes if the team continues to improve on its defense and conditioning, the Lady Knights could be poised for a fast start.
“Our main goal is just to get better game by game,” Patton said. “Obviously, the girls want to be better, and they want to win. They want to be champions, but the way we go about that is being better today than you were yesterday. That’s our biggest goal this season is improvement.”
