King’s Fork High School went on the road Thursday evening and took a loss to Deep Creek High School on a late field goal.

The Bulldogs are now 5-4 on the season. It was the third loss in a row for a Bulldogs team that hasn’t lost two in a row since the 2016 season while under Coach Scottie Littles.

“We played with amazing effort, but we just came up short,” Littles said. “We made too many mistakes, but it was just another lesson to be learned.”

King’s Fork had the lead in the first quarter of the game. A field goal put them up 3-0 over Deep Creek. In the second quarter, the Hornets matched that field goal, which forced both teams to go into halftime tied at 3.

The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. Marc Dyer tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Boone to give the Bulldogs their only touchdown of the game. Deep Creek scored but couldn’t convert the extra point, thus giving the Bulldogs a 10-9 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams remained stout, with King’s Fork holding onto their one-point lead until there were four second left on the clock. Deep Creek had the ball with a chance to get a game-winning field goal, and they did. It went through, giving Deep Creek a 12-10 victory at the buzzer.

“The late field goal sucks, but what I’ve learned is that it’s a tale of two seasons, man,” Littles said. “As long as we continue to improve, we will be fine. We just want to continue to be better.”

The Bulldogs know that when the playoffs start, everyone is 0-0. Littles said no one will care about what the Bulldogs have done in October if they are successful in November.

King’s Fork’s finale will be on the road against Oscar Smith High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
