Donald Goldberg is the incumbent for the Suffolk Borough on City Council, and he will be running again in the Nov. 6 election.

If elected, this will be Goldberg’s second term after first being elected in 2014. He believes that he still has work to do to continue to improve his borough.

“I want to finish what I want to do, and I want to continue to work with my community,” Goldberg said.

Goldberg wants to focus on economic development in the downtown area, and build Suffolk to the city he believes it can be.

“I know that industry, and I know what we can do more to create more jobs and better jobs. With those jobs, we can build a better tax base,” Goldberg said. “I want companies to come here and grow roots.”

Bringing new and successful businesses to downtown is important, but for Goldberg, it is also important that the businesses that come to Suffolk get involved in the community.

“I want them to get involved in the community, because I think that is important,” Goldberg said.

As a native Suffolkian and a long-time resident of the Suffolk Borough, he wants to see his borough become the best borough in the city. He wants the downtown to be the same vibrant area it was when he was growing up.

“We had fun, and I want to bring it back to that again,” Goldberg said. “It takes time to bring it back, and it’s one goal we have to continue with. We have to work hard at it and look to City Council to make better rules and regulations.”

Goldberg looks forward to the possibility of four more years serving the downtown area and working with the other councilmen.

“We have to work together and work through the issues that the city has,” Goldberg said. “You can’t just concentrate on your borough, but you have to look at the whole city.”

Goldberg believes that being a native not only of Suffolk but also of downtown gives him the ability to best serve the community.

“I’m from here, and I know the people. I’ve been involved in all kinds of organizations and committees officially and unofficially,” Goldberg said. “I know the needs of the community, and I care. I have no plans of going anywhere. I live here, and this is my home.”
