If you’re looking for something fun to do this Saturday afternoon, look no farther than the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.

The musical “Annie” will be staged at 2 p.m. by the Hurrah Players through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International. If musicals, or community theater, or maybe even charming orphans are your thing, you’ll definitely want to make it a priority to attend.

This is true local theater. If you’ve never been to a performance at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, this is definitely the one to attend, even if you don’t know any of the people who are involved in the production.

Two local twins are among those involved. Rebecca and Renee Chasey, 17-year-old seniors at Nansemond River High School, will be involved both backstage and onstage. Renee is the production’s scenic designer, and Rebecca will be assisting backstage as well as acting as several different parts in ensemble segments.

Actor Victor Spence plays Warbucks, and Sharon Cook plays Hannigan. Young Aubrey Swain, chosen out of more than 40 who auditioned for the role, will play Annie.

Community theater should be supported by the community, and not just the parents and friends of those participating. Productions at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts are always professionally done, and the intimate auditorium doesn’t offer any bad seats.

We highly recommend the “Annie” production and encourage everyone to go out to support it on Saturday.
