Homecoming and a rivalry headline week eight

The Saints are hosting homecoming this weekend as the Cavs and Bulldogs face off in a rivalry matchup.
King’s Fork High School (5-2) at Lakeland High School (1-6)
The last rivalry game of the regular season comes between King’s Fork and Lakeland. Both teams are coming off of losses last week and are looking to bounce back. Lakeland returns back home a hungry bunch as they are looking forward to making a late push to get into the playoffs. These teams have played each other very toughly the past couple of years, and this weekend is not likely to be an exception.
“We have had a great week of practice,” Coach Kevin Knight said. “Guys have been flying around. We’ve been on the road against them the last two seasons, so it’s good to get a home game.”
King’s Fork took a loss against a tough Indian River High School team last week. The game ended with a score of 41-13, but the Bulldogs had a 7-6 lead in the first half. Coach Scottie Littles mentioned this week in practice for the Bulldogs has been finding the formula that allowed them to be successful in the first half last week. The Bulldogs took their first loss to Nansemond River and responded the following week with a win.
“Going up against Lakeland, we know that this is a big rivalry,” Littles said. “I don’t have to get the kids up for this one. They’ll be ready.”
King’s Fork will be at Lakeland at 7 p.m. Friday.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (7-0) vs. Norfolk Christian School (2-3)
NSA is looking to get its eighth win of the season against a talented team. It’s homecoming weekend so the Saints will be focused on getting the win for the NSA community this Friday.
“It’s always important to win this game, because it’s the next game on the schedule,” Biehl said. “We get a lot of support from our fan base, faculty, student body and just the community in general. Homecoming is always a bigger game, and we just want to go out there and put our best foot forward.”
If the Saints can get a win Friday, it will be the first time they’ve defeated Norfolk Christian under Biehl. Last weekend, they accomplished that very same feat, but it was against Norfolk Academy. That game, the Saints were able to get a 40-33 win behind four touchdown passes from Ian McAninley. Zac Morris caught three of those touchdown passes.
“It’s going to come down to what we do to make plays, and I am looking forward to that,” Biehl said.”
This week in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II poll, NSA remained at No. 1. Biehl has emphasized that his team shouldn’t pay too much attention to the rankings.
“It’s not about the ranking; it’s about how good we can get,” Biehl said. “It’s about how good we can get as individual players. As long as we are getting better, everything will take care of itself.”
NSA hosts Norfolk Christian at 7 p.m. Friday.
Nansemond River High School (4-3) vs. Deep Creek High School (5-2)
This week will be a good test for the Warriors, as they have a nice matchup against Deep Creek. Deep Creek has only two losses on the season but is coming off of a loss to Oscar Smith High School. The Warriors were able to take down Western Branch High School last weekend.
If the Warriors can get this win, it will put them in even better playoff positioning. Nansemond River has played strong defensively at home for the most part. However, overall, they want to improve their home record. Last week, they limited Western Branch to three points.
“We have our rhythm down as far as preparation goes,” Coach Justin Conyers said. “Now we just have to go out there and put it all together. We believe if we come out with a win, this game can do a lot for our confidence going forward.”
Nansemond River hosts Deep Creek at 7 p.m. Friday.
