Cruising in for Driver Days

Classic cars will cruise into Driver Days on Oct. 20 for the 22nd annual Driver Car Show. The show will be held at Berea Christian Church on Driver Lane.
Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the show will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration is $25 per vehicle, and advance registration is available. This is a non-judged car show to benefit both the church and local charities.
This show began in 1996 with Ronnie Gould and his son, Jason, of Driver’s Rio Grande Traders, who passed the baton to Berea Christian Church to keep the tradition alive, according to organizer Jonie Mansfield with the church.
“There have been so many that have given us guidance in the past few months, and it is now coming to fruition,” Mansfield wrote in an email. “I understand they had 210 cars last year, and we are hoping to have a large turnout as well. As we have told everyone, we will do our best to keep the show operation the same way it has been for 21 years.”
This year’s show has more than a dozen sponsors along with Rio Grande Traders, and Robert Shaw will be at the event with his “Street Outlaws” car, a 2004 Mustang by the name of “Ghost Ship,” according to Mansfield.
The church’s youth group will provide breakfast, and the North Suffolk Circle of Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters will serve lunch for a fundraiser. There will also be a baked goods sale by the Women’s Fellowship of Berea Christian Church.
Those that wish to register ahead of time should call the church office at 538-8872 before stopping by at 4109 Driver Lane, or email itsaclassic@drivercarshow.com.
