The Saints football team remained No. 1 in the most recent Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association rankings.

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team is 6-0 and just came off a bye week. Shortly before last weekend’s games, the VISAA Division II poll came out, with NSA remaining at No. 1. At 6-0, NSA is now in the latter part of its schedule, and that’s where the Saints will have to take their game up another notch.

Coach Mike Biehl’s philosophy each game is just to approach it one week at a time. As well as the Saints have been playing this season, it is easy to get caught up in the hype. However, Biehl has been delivering his message of focus, and he’s been equally impressed with how his players have responded. Some of his players who have been with him since he got to NSA know what to expect, and that has helped with the team’s journey this season.

With some tough games ahead on the schedule, NSA can strongly position itself for playoff seeding. The Saints want to be playing their best football towards the end of the season.

NSA will be taking on Norfolk Academy this Friday on the road.
