‘New, fresh and country chic’

Friday marks the first evening Holland Produce will begin serving dinner to patrons in its newly renovated restaurant.
In late June, Holland Produce owner Jeanette Holland, along with other leadership, decided to close the sister eatery Mosaic Restaurant at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts after 13 years, and that gave way for Holland Produce to have a new identity.
“This is a new place for everyone,” Holland said. “It’s new, fresh and country chic.”
Immediately following Labor Day, contractors were inside the restaurant to finish work in just under three weeks.
The new identity is evident when walking through the front doors.
Holland Produce features an industrial farmhouse style that is evident in everything from the light fixtures to the artwork adorning the wall.
Walking back into the restaurant when it was finished was a great feeling for Holland.
“It was exciting, because we’ve been here since 1969, and look at how far we have come,” Holland said.
They swapped pictures of chickens to oil paintings of cows, and they added a Manhattan-style bar to the back of the room.
While the restaurant looks different, it still has the same old Holland spirit in its atmosphere and in its food.
Holland Produce will still serve its “Charleston Southern”-style food but with new additions, including chicken and waffles and tomato pie.
The staff at Holland Produce have received mixed reactions from their regulars regarding the style and appearance of the restaurant, but Holland believes it is just because it is a shocking change.
“Some say they really like it, but some are saying they like the old restaurant,” Holland said. “It’s a shock and a big change, but it’s just the new look and the same Holland.”
Dinner will be served at Holland Produce from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at 100 N. Commerce St.
