The Saints went to 4-0 on the season Monday with a dominant road win over Isle of Wight Academy.

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team didn’t let the lack of practice time affect them. The Saints defeated IWA 46-7 to continue their best start under Coach Mike Biehl. It was a good win considering the circumstances.

“We are fortunate to go 1-0 again,” Biehl said. “It was just a great team effort knowing our situation. We are feeling good about where we are at. But like I told the kids, I honestly don’t feel like we are still playing our best football. I still don’t feel like that we have had our best showing yet.”

NSA got on the board first in the first quarter. Their defense pitched a shutout in the first half not letting IWA score a point. After being up 21-0 in the first half, the Saints offense got even better, scoring 25 points in the second half. George Pettaway continued to add on from his big game against Christchurch School, adding three more touchdowns Monday evening. He accounted for more than 200 yards from scrimmage. The Ian McAninley and Zac Morris connection was more vivid than ever as the two accounted for three touchdown passes. Josh Hoerster added 11 tackles, while Seth Townsend added 15 tackles. The defense also got an interception return for a touchdown from Caleb Evans.

“We did an excellent job defensively,” Biehl said, “especially against a team that prides themselves on running the ball and being physical. We gave our offense some really good chances to go out there and put points up on the board.”

The Saints will only get to enjoy this win for a short time, as they go on the road again Friday. They take on Portsmouth Christian for a potential fifth win of the season. Biehl feels confident in the plan they have for the team and for his team to be ready Friday. NSA has already gone through the situation before just two weeks ago.

“I have to tip my cap to them,” Biehl said. “Those guys have taken whatever obstacle that’s come their way and approached head-on. I expect nothing less this week.”

NSA will face Portsmouth Christian on the road at 7 p.m. Friday.
