Emergency shelter plans changed

The city has changed its plans for emergency shelters with the changing track of Hurricane Florence, it announced Wednesday afternoon.
As the storm now appears to be less of a threat to Hampton Roads, the Nansemond River High School emergency shelter will not open unless a need arises.
The King’s Fork High School shelter, located at 351 Kings Fork Road, will still open as planned at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
As the King’s Fork High School shelter will not have accommodations for pets, pet owners can contact the Suffolk Police Department at 923-2350. This is also the number to call for general questions about the shelter.
Hurricane Florence is now expected to make landfall near the North Carolina/South Carolina border, but significant impacts — including 4 to 6 inches of rain, tropical storm-force winds and storm surge — still are predicted for Hampton Roads.
